ABOUT
Some bands break up. Love Riot just took a long detour.
After 25 years away — long enough to raise families, launch a Grammy-nominated children's band called Milkshake, and live a whole other life — Love Riot is back. Remarkably, the music picks up right where they left off, as if the quarter century in between was just a long weekend.
Nothing Is Etched in Stone brings together new recordings and a handful of songs tracked in 1999, just before the band went on hiatus — and woven together, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. That's not a trick of production. That's just who Love Riot is: Lisa Mathews, Mikel Gehl, Mark Evanko, Willem Elsevier, and "Young" Ron Campbell, five people who never stopped being a band, even when they weren't playing together.
The songs are classic Love Riot — a unique blending of acoustic and electric instruments, melodically sharp, lyrically poetic. Here you’ll find a late-night drive through Baltimore with a broken heart. The exhaustion of a love that's run its course. A quiet rage at greed and corruption. A friend lost too soon. A promise to show up for the people who need you. Through it all, the Love Riot sound is exactly what it always was: smart, warm, and emotionally honest, with Lisa's voice at the center of everything.
